Water Works: 150 Years of Louisville Water Company 10/23/2010 - 5/1/2011 Over the past 150 years, the Louisville Water Company has transformed our city’s water supply from the unhealthy drinking water that earned our city its terrible nickname “Graveyard of the West,” to receiving the American Water Works Association’s award for “Best Tasting Tap Water in the Country.” The Louisville Water Company’s story of innovation and public service is told in our new exhibit, “Water Works: 150 Years of Louisville Water Company.” This interactive exhibit will include memorabilia, photographs, original architectural renderings and video storytelling, all designed to illustrate the company’s history and how “water works” throughout our community. Designed with field trips in mind, all school groups that visit the “Water Works” exhibit are invited to bring pennies, dimes, nickels and quarters to “drop in the bucket.” The Frazier Museum will collect this change to raise money for EDGE OUTREACH, a Louisville Water Company partner and international organization headquartered in Louisville. EDGE works to train, equip and mobilize people to provide sustainable water, sanitation and health and hygiene solutions throughout the world. Donations to the “Drop in the Bucket” campaign will purchase supplies and equipment for their work purifying water in places such as Haiti and India. |
